Gilliam is most definitely an acquired taste! I never could get my head round Brazil, though I seem to recall liking Jabberwocky around the first time it was on TV – though I was significantly younger than I am now.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I thought Twelve Monkeys was superb, so it’s not all of his stuff.

I heard Kermode the other day and I swear he said he simply wasn’t impressed with the new one?

Perhaps Gilliam is an acquired taste. I really liked the Jabberwocky and still think Brazil is one of my favourite films. His stuff doesn’t always work… but it is never less than interesting – even when it provokes and “Erm” response! I haven’t seen Imaginarium yet but Mark Kermode (a reviewer I really rate) thinks you need to see it twice to really appreciate it.

At least it was open.

A number of years ago (don’t want to work it out or I’ll feel old), I turned up at the cinema to find crowds of people screaming (WTF I thought), the place closed to the non-invited public, and Arnie strutting his stuff down a red carpet. The film was either End of Days, or The Last Action Hero, can’t remember which.

I was not amused.

Events like this should be reserved for Leicester Square only.

Beth, I’ve had one friend say she loved it and every single other person (including magazine reviews) say “Erm… well…” which is how I viewed the liked of Baron Munchausen.
