Americans in “we are stupid” shock horror announcement: Ananova – Mrs Slocombe shocks US.
For those who don’t know, the program in question was made around 30 years ago. It features a slew of double entendres and an obviously gay man, but no bad language.
I’m trying to figure out why this is a problem. As the executive in the news article says, this is a problem for America. Why? Rather than trying to bury it, be ashamed of it or just panic and go WAAAH, why not develop a ******* sense of humour?
Face it, for every decent US sitcom there are a ton that are so bland they make water taste fruity.
I also can’t get over the fact that this is all because some aging pop “star” showed her nipple on TV to try and raise album sales. The only reason that caused issues was because of the US’ no-inherent litigious attitude to everything. If there’s a chance to make some money, pretend to be offended and sue.
Look, I think Barney the big purple dinosaur was rather offensive, but I’ve not sued. I reckon the BC are pissing my money away with some of the crap I’m paying for with my license fee. Yet I’ve not actually sued them. Sky had a program called “Tribes” a few years back where they took a very stereotypical view of cultures and locales within the UK, including my own which I did find marginally offensive… but I didn’t sue. Why? I’m not American, I have a sense of humour and I appreciate the value of free speech.
Someone ought to remind the US about their civil liberties and a very basic premise – if you don’t like it… don’t ******* watch it. Mary Whitehouse could have done with taking that on board as well, the interfering old bitch.

Barney just scared me
There is a slight difference in that Are You Being Served? is broadcast on state-funded television in the USA. And guess who controls the state? John Ashcroft, Duby and all his cronies. Who are trying to control everything right now.
all the more reason not to vote for Dubya!
