I had a phone call today from the manager at the Dixons garage that screwed me around on Sunday (see earlier post). Have you ever heard a manager squirm? It’s a very satisfying sound.
They’ve offered to bring a car out to me for a test drive, give me a "special deal", ensure there’s definitely someone there is I want to come in… Of course, deals don’t mean jack to me as it’ll be a company car and I’m getting it through a lease firm. I’m not telling them that, though. If I do then all of a sudden they just won’t care any more!
I might string them along for a bit. Or I might just check out a dealership outside Bradford instead. On the other hand, this might be enough leverage to get me a decent length test drive of a diesel rather than 15 minutes in a petrol, which is hardly going to help anyway.
No sign or mention of a cheque for £30 though. The tight gits.

LOL, like they are really going to give you any money!
I would string them along – make the manager squirm even more, let them think you are really going to buy one, then just walk off.
But then, I am a bitch.
Mosh. Funny that. I leased my last two cars from Dixons. No problems really. The last car was a Ford Focus 1.6 which I had from them for just over 2 years. It was a cracking car. So much so that I just bought a Focus 1.8 Edge with sports suspension and alloys. It’s brand new and the the last of the old modes (which look better than the new ones) and was on a great deal. The Focus is a great car to drive.
Hope you get sorted out soon.
String them out as much as you can be bothered to. Let the customer get the upper hand for once 🙂
Well, as far as Focii go the only choice for me (company car list and all that) is the 1.6D (I want a diesel). It’s cheaper than the old ones for reasons known best to Ford.
Chris, yes I’ve had a Rover and I loved it. I liked the way it handled, the speed, the interior… I just didn’t like the cost of insuring it after I had a company car and no real need for it!
Yeah, I might string Dixons along. Get a decent test drive, maybe convince them to search out a diesel. Make out I’m after a 115bhp Plus with all the trimmings (which I am) or push it and say it was the Sport (which I’m not).
And then tell them I’ve gone for the MX3 because the customer service at Mazda was so much better…
You never said it was Dixons.
I had a friend who went to one of those to look at an Alpha. He said he wasn’t sure if he could afford the insurance, but the sales person pushed and pushed and finally said that he could put a totally refundable deposit of £500 down.
He did so but then changed his mind about the car. He asked for the £500 back but was told he coould only have £500 Dixon’s credit.
Luckily he has used his credit card to put down the deposit. They refunded the money to him and went after Dixon’s on his behalf.
Bunch of cowboys if you ask me.
I’ve also heard a saying “You will only ever own one Rover”. I’ve owned mine, and doubt I’ll have another. You’ve also owned one in the past 😕
