I just changed from British Gas to Powergen. I sent the meter readings off and was told I’d be with Powergen on the 22nd and 26th of April for Gas and electric respectively. April 29th and two direct debits come out – one from BG and one from Powergen.
Eh?
Powergen say they’re my supplier. BG say I’ve not left them yet. I’ve just paid two companies for the same gas and electric. I think.
I then got a letter this morning from BG saying I’m £24.71 in credit on my leccy and that, as I’m cancelling, it’ll be refunded against my next quarterly bill. But I won’t *get* a ******* quarterly bill BECAUSE I’VE ******* LEFT THEM. Even if I get one, I don’t see why I should wait 3 ******* months for my bastard money back.
And if I ring them up I get some **** in a sweatshop in Delhi who knows everything about Eastenders for the last 6 months but **** all about my ******* bills.

could come in handy if you miss an episode of Eastenders though..
I have to laugh with all this outsourcing I’m sure there is a tv showing episodes of UK shows and I’m sure the next person you talk to will be aware that Chelsea has won.
As a rule, if you ring between 8am and 4pm you will usually get through to someone in the UK, but outside of those times, well, get an atlas and a pin and take your guess.
I rang up about changing my carinsurance to a different car (esure) around 8pm one night and the woman who answered could barley speak English and I’m not convinced she knew anything more about cars than you can get diferent coloured ones. Telling her it was a Renault was hard enough but after spending about 4 minutes of her telling me Renault didn’t make the model I had sat in, test driven, researched, and agreed to buy.
I ended the call and rang back the next day in normal business hours and was sorted in 3 minutes.
Threaten them with watchdog, either the programme or there governing agency…it normally works 🙂
I need to sort out BT, thieving ********. I have to pay £25 a month, yet my quarterly bill is £34. How does that work? Surely the point of paying by direct debit is so they adjust the amount accordingly?
No, the point of DD is so that they can take the same amount each month, earn interest on it and refund you the difference every 12 months. This was another issue I had with BG and why I left.
