About to become very unpopular

I’ve booked Kitkat in at the vet’s for the Full Works on Monday next week. This means over the space of 24 hours she is going to miss at least two meals, get shoved into a box, driven in a car, left alone with strangers, cut open, injected (several times) and given itchy stitches and a collar.

She is so going to hate me. I have also now discovered that cats aren’t that cheap after all. Eek.

I’ve given up and decided to go for it. She’s about 14 months old (at a guess), but hasn’t yet gotten pregnant. This is either very fortunate, or maybe every cat in our neighbourhood has been done. Or is female. Oooorrr… maybe Kitkat has bollocks instead of internal plumbing. There’s a small chance she has been done already, but I seriously have my doubts about that. I can’t see ratboy and his ex giving it any thought.

Working on the principle that ex-mrs scumbag said she’d be back for the cat when she left, and hasn’t been seen in the intervening three months, I reckon I’m justified in saying Kitkat is now mine. She must have known the filth-bucket she walked out on would throw kitty out on the street.

The thing is, I’m already worried about leaving her alone at the vet’s to be operated on. I am seriously already fretting and thinking about chickening out and not bothering. I am scared.

A warm bed and a nice meal… something like chicken and gravy when she is feeling up to it.
Like above, when ours were done they got grumpy, but it soon wears off.
Might make her a little less vicious = less early morning toe biting, although means no cute kittens… which going on costs above, is probably a very good thing (and the current cat population around your house)!

Bit of a hike to pick it up, surely! Sharon has apparently wangled one off some fool at work who doesn’t realise I’m too lazy to wash cat poo off things before I return then, but thank you all the same 🙂

Cardboard if one-off as can line with newspaper then chuck but plastic if expecting to be long term / multiple cat owner as you’re right – so much more practical!
Avoid wicker though – might look quaint & rustic but lets both fluid & solids through (BAD) and the bits of wicker can end up poking your cat as they’re transported.

Our old boy now just gets carried in my arms (with a towel of course!) with a harness & lead for his annual trip.

Janetyjanet

courage mon brave – my two were up & at them after a day & bore no grudges, I think Sharon’s idea of freshly cooked chicken & gravy would be an excellent choice to cheer her up

For ease of storage (my main problem with a big cat carrier right now), go on then – please. Swap you it for 128Mb of SDRAM…

I have always had my cats ‘done’. She will probably be in the huff with you for a short while, but it is worth it in the long run. You know it makes sense!

Janetyjanet

I’d offer to lend you mine but being as I live on the South Coast, probably not much use!

I’ve not been to the vet, but did mention. The receptionist said the only way to tell is top open her up again. If there is a scar, it’d be hidden by fur, so at the very least they’d have to shave her.

I’m fairly certain I’ve never seen her with a shaved tummy over the last year either!

And I ain’t from Bradford… I just live here 🙂 Hence the shirt, stripey hair, tattoo, season ticket, sick feeling after the farce yesterday afternoon…

Just had one of mines done, am more nauseous now about the bill…would have been cheaper to use Bupa! Cats do cost a fortune.
I think my toddler is slightly cheaper.
Have been following Kitkats tale as we have had a scrawny kitten from next door infiltrating our house for months now. It has given our three cats fleas, and worms, and the wee ***** has now been in our house for a week solid and won’t leave. Our lovely neighbours, who technically own it, are clueless. I think the little fleabag has us sussed, as it is now rather sleek and shiney furred.
Used to work in a vets, in the days when I thought I could be one, and the operation is so quick really, I swear the wee one will be fine.
My last neutered cat gave me filthy looks for a day, but soon forgave me.
You have to be strong for her man!

Keep her warm. I remember when we had our cat done she was cuddled up to the radiator for the first few days. I still remember the squeal of pain as I stroked her, and she did her usual roll onto her back to stretch. It was awful.

Can’t say I follow the football – after 13 years of being with a Geordie, it’s a relief not to worry about whether he is wearing his lucky shirt and socks and underpants, and we have to avoid certain places because last time we went there they lost, so maybe that was the jinx….

And the cat? She is black and white. Called Keegan.

Mosh

Kitkat’s not keen on being held. You can pick her up and shift her about, but holding her close results in hissing and claws.

On the other hand, getting her to go into a box isn’t hard. Just sit behind it and tap it and she wanders in to see what the noise is. She also doesn’t mind being “trapped”. She’s got stuck in cupboards and boxes before and just sits there waiting to be let out.

I’ll check prices and see what I can stretch to on top of the vet fees.

sharon

lol, I’ll ask around at work tomorrow… see what I can do 🙂
(Think we gave ours to the CPL)

Sharon

lol, she will be fine babe, and maybe she is a he, but sure they will sort it out when she gets there and is on the ‘table’!

Mosh

OK, Anni. Now I’m worried. I don’t like watching her fall down the stairs (which she does often enough). I don’t want her to hurt when she stretches 🙁

As for footie, I don’t have lucky shorts, socks etc. I’m not superstitious. Gave that up a long time ago. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. We usually fail to win when I fork out for an away ticket, or at least that seemed the case last year!

Janetyjanet

ps. anni – it’s 14 months rather than years so much more appropriate

Mosh

There’s a place near me that was recommended by 2 friends. Spay £30, initial course of jabs £30 and microchip £15.

In the past (i.e. when I lived with the ‘rents) we had two cats (one M, one F) and three dogs (one M, two F). All bar one of the dogs was “done”. The two M’s were fine, the cat was always antisocial so it didn’t change her, but the other dog *really* became reserved after she had the op, poor thing.

Fully aware it’s for the best. It’s just the first time I’ve ever been the one in charge and I’m just worried about leaving her alone and stuff. Sounds crap. I’m 30, not 5!

What’s the cat equivalent of ice cream as a reward for afterwards?

sharon

Want me to investigate and see if I can borrow you one for next week?

anni

Well, if the vet is doing the operation, they must think it’s okay. Mind you, 14 is a fair old age for a cat – but then probably an even worse age to fall pregnant. And the vet should be able to tell if she’s been done – won’t there be a scar?

BTW – why the toon army strip, when you come from Bradford?

Mosh

Will stop by a pet store during the week and get a box of some kind for her. Dunno whether to get a cheap cardboard one or a nice shiny plastic one. Storage space is a problem at home right now, but a plastic one can be washed when she inevitable craps herself in it!
