Musical taste

First off, I’m fairly sure everyone knows what I like to listen to. That is, pretty much anything but I prefer the heavier stuff. As I type this, I’ve got a free DVD from Metal Hammer playing and Deicide‘s When Heaven Burns annoying the neighbours.

Eyes left and down (or up) a bit will show you what I have in the car CD player and nearby is my most recent MP3 list from WinAmp (permanently on random). I’ve just ordered the last Exodus album, and the most recent Soilwork one (from the US – still cheaper than the UK even with airmail). I’m in a heavy mood.

So I was giving this lad a lift to site during the week – Shane. Really nice bloke, actually. We had a good natter on the way there and stuff. On the way back, though, he finally twigged what was on the stereo.

“Are you listening to Slipknot? How can you listen to that? It’s all noise! I mean, I’d not even class the instruments they use as musical! I prefer dance stuff myself.”

Instruments. Not musical. Prefer dance.

Can anyone spot the seriously ******* deep flaw in his criticism?

Yes, Dance songs have tunes whereas Shitsnot is just noise and bellowing like a ****.

Oh, wait. That’s not it.

Nevermind.

Mosh

Not heard of Shitsnot. I’ll go look them up. Snot, on the other hand, aren’t bad. Bit punky though.

Hmm… can’t find Shitsnot anywhere. Must be one of those little unsigned bands… (currently listening to Disturbed)

Sir Findo Gask

Shitsnot..

hehehe.

anni

I wouldn’t know – after promising me metal in your car, all you gave me was 5 live….. Shane should be grateful.

Sanescientist

I’m not a huge metal fan – but christ, he can’t compare it to bloody dance music. Jeez. I’ve decided against publishing my playlists for fear of ridicule.

Mosh

Hmm. The last track I listened to was “I Might Be A **** But I’m Not A ******* ****” by TISM. Before that, “Nobody Does It Better” by Carly Simon.

And *you* hide your playlist?

Hans

Slipknot have a song called Peope=**** but I call it Slipknot=Crap but then again I have been listening to a lot of Natasha Bedingfield, Darkest Hour, Megadeth, that Brian MacFadden fellow, and a cool version of Head Like a Hole by AFI so really there is accounting for some tastes.

Mosh

Hans – get their third album and I defy you not like it. First one’s rough around the edges, second is an attempt to try and “out-heavy” the first one, third even has ballads…

Da Goldfish

Oh, Slipknot – do me a ******* favour. Not proper music, not proper metal. Listen to ’em? I’d sooner sniff a dead crow.

The one good thing they did was when their fans pelted Daphne & Celeste with bottles of piss at the Reading festival a couple of years ago. Cool, but **** all to do with their “music”.

Caz

I’m currently waiting for Slipknot’s 3rd album to be delivered, along with Triviums 1st album which if its anything like their 2nd I’ll be well happy!

I remember that Leeds fest it was probably the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Two annoying birds ducking flying piss while still trying to sing, stress on the trying!

Alan

Slipknot always seemed to me to be trying too hard, but they’re not bad. My eldest boy is a fan and I have one of their albums ripped onto my laptop from him. Dance – depends what kind – if he’s talking Massive Attack or Portishead, something of that type, then fine. If he’s talking Agia Napa compilation albums with artists you’ve never heard of with names like DJ Spoon, just open the door and throw him out of the car on the motorway, it will be a mercy killing. As far as real music is concerned, as long as you all bow down in worship before the great god Bowie we’ll all be fine.

Mosh

Fishy: “I’d sooner sniff a dead crow.” – I think we know enough about your turn-ons from your blog…

Putting D&C on the same stage at Slipknot and the other heavier bands that day was mental. It made about as much sense as putting 50 Cent on the main stage at Leeds on Friday last year. Who the **** schedules these things?

Anyway, sod ya. I’m off to see Slipknot at Download this year šŸ˜›

Mosh

Bowie? Didn’t he tour with that Ziggy Stardust chap before he got killed or something?

Brown Cow

OK, so Slipknot maybe a bit heavy for some people, but to compare it with dance “music” is a bit thick really…
(Currently listening to One Minute Silence)

Having made the mistkae of turning over just in time to catch Toyah doing Queen, I think it was Don’t stop me now, I am prepared to listen to anything once, nothing can be as bad as has beens ruining classics!

Mosh

Toyah doing Queen? All of them? Even the dead, gay one? Now *that* is quality television.

SWMBO

Trust me Mosh, it would have been preferable to listening to her warble her way through one of their songs!
