Couldn’t put it better

A post on Times Online detailing 20 reasons not to fly Ryanair. They pretty much cover everything although I’ll clarify point 2. If one person in your group has a bag then you all must check in at the airport and all pay the check-in charge, but only if you’ve made a group booking.

The way round this is to book the luggage carrier’s flight separately. Which takes time and is a pain in the arse, but saves a fiver per person per flight segment so may be worth it.

Ick

Liquorice (or licorice, if you’re an Aussie) is not black but very, very dark green. You discover this the day after you’ve eaten a full bag of it and notice the water in the loo is a rather strange colour.

Urgh

Eating a whole pot of “Hot” spicy tomato salsa and an enormous bag of chips for lunch is not as good an idea as it will have seemed beforehand.

You can tell you’ve been using the internet for too long when…

…you spot a business called “my doctor” and assume it must be Malaysian.

Today’s random fact

One of those daft thoughts kicking around in my head ended up in a little bit of internet research this afternoon. Why do we (the Brits) abbreviate “pound” weights to “lb”?

It turns out, it’s from the Latin word libra, meaning “scales”. Which makes sense. It seems the Romans also used a unit of weight similar to our pound which they also called a libra. The Latin for “weight” is pondus, hence our word “pound”.
