Jap porn

Check for webcams

I’m no longer in Japan, having had to cut my visit short. But yesterday I was traipsing around a couple of areas of Tokyo. At one point I was in dire need of a poo, so I found a loo in one of the subway stations and squatted down. I had to squat as it was a squat toilet – generally the ones in the station are 1 “throne” to 2 “squat”.

Anyway, on finishing I spotted a plastic bag sat on the shelf next to the loo in the cubicle. Being curious (I was in a foreign country, after all) I peeked inside. And found an empty DVD package. With the cover reversed on it.

Interesting subject matter.

Now, I don’t know if the Japanese are as pun-tastic with their porn film titles as we are. Assuming they just go for the more literal naming schemes then this one could have been called “Webcan footage of Japanese schoolgirls trying to **** in squat toilets, missing and smearing it into the trough with paper towels“.

From the country that brought you the PS3, Tamagotchi and Subaru Imprezas. Niiiice.

Couldn’t put it better

Boeing 737-800, named Nyköping, takes off from...
Don't fly on me

A post on Times Online detailing 20 reasons not to fly Ryanair. They pretty much cover everything although I’ll clarify point 2. If one person in your group has a bag then you all must check in at the airport and all pay the check-in charge, but only if you’ve made a group booking.

The way round this is to book the luggage carrier’s flight separately. Which takes time and is a pain in the arse, but saves a fiver per person per flight segment so may be worth it.

Nationwide bank card changes… for the worst

Nationwide Building Society
Nationwide

For some years now I’ve been harping on about how great Nationwide are as the only UK bank with a debit card you can use abroad for no fees. Likewise, their credit card is one of only three (along with Abbey National and the Post Office) with the same no-fee deal. I even changed my regular current account to them to take advantage of these.

But – you guessed it – no more. From 6 May for its credit card, and 1 June on the debit card, you’ll pay an added 0.84% on spending outside Europe, jumping to 1% in July. Their wording is that they themselves are not adding a fee. They’re simply no longer going to “absorb” the fees that Visa charge to the bank. It’s still – I believe – less than virtually every other bank’s existing charges.

I got the first warning of this from the excellent Money Saving Expert site, though full details can be found (if you dig…) here at Nationwide.

So, without doing a huge amount of research it seems that changing the credit card could be worthwhile but that the debit card (for ATM withdrawals) is still a better deal than any other.

Greetings from Myanmar

burma mandalay lions bus

I’m currently in a cybercafe in Mandalay, Myanmar. Internet access is slow and painful so this is just a quickie to let you all know I’ll be back online properly around Thursday next week once I get to KL.

The gangsta rap on the stereo’s just been replaces by Black Lace‘s Agadoo so I’m most definitely off…

Temporary silence

The 14 states and divisions of Burma.
The 14 states and divisions of Burma

It’s very unlikely there’ll be any posts here for the next 14 days or so. I’m about to head to Bangkok Airport and fly to Yangon (Rangoon to the rest of the world) for 13 days in Myanmar / Burma. From what I’ve been told, internet access there is not that great so if I do post, I’ll be concentrating on the Travel Blog.

My flight back to Bangkok is booked for the 23rd. I go directly to the Hualamphong train station and from there overnight to Butterworth. Then it’s onto another overnight train… or a bus… or staying overnight and getting transport to Kuala Lumpur.

Either way I’ll be in KL on the 24th or 25th in a hostel with free wi-fi for a day or so before my flight to Perth, Australia.

I almost sound organised.

Please keep your comments coming, and check out the other blog for the duration. I’m really looking forward to this country as it has relatively little tourism and I’ve heard fantastic things about the people.
