Pussy in a tight hole

First off, congratulations to Anni for getting her new job. I told her anyone who interviewed her then turned her down would be mad. There’s only one downside… new job means more travel and less time to look after kitties.

So. If anyone out there fancies looking after one and seven-eighth (roughly) cats for a few months then Anni and I would be very grateful to hear from you. Houses without other pets would be best as they’re not used to dogs and the like. Also, somewhere not right by a main road or slap in the centre of the city as they do like to go out, and also don’t like being run over by big trucks.

I’m due home (for a short period…) around the end of May when my contract ends. I’ll be in Europe till late June then I’m off to SE Asia again for a couple of months. I may head home for the silly season. This could be an ongoing thing. Anni took the little loves on for a year. By March it will have been two years!

If anyone wishes to volunteer, please leave a comment or contact me. Thanks!

Eddie update

A new message – and a good one – from Anni:

Took them both back tot he vets on Friday, to get their annual jabs, and also for Ed to have his stitches out.

He was good as gold – wriggled a bit, and in the end the vet took them out while I was stood cuddling him, but he never murmured nor scratched. The vet said I could let him out there and then, but as I was going on to work, and then would be late back cos of the Christmas party I decided to leave him in one more day.

He was a bit spooked when we got home – for the first time he was without his collar, and he realised he didn’t have a tail – now he is running in circles looking for the damn thing!

He went out yesterday morning, and all through the day I kept calling him, but no sign. Then at midnight last night, as I was heading to bed, I called them both. KK came straight away, and after a few more calls I heard the neighbours fence go, and little Eddie came running!

Seems he has got the hang of jumping the fences without his tail then!

Make your own Manx cat
Make your own Manx cat

Just got an email from a very rushed Anni. All good news!

Ed is so fine it’s unbelievable. He is so perky, the change in him is astonishing. I cried like a baby when I saw what I had done to him – there is about half an inch left of his tail, plus they shaved his whole backside – but he is no longer racing around the house in fear. He now ‘walks tall’ instead of crawling around like commando cat, and has progressed from sleeping on my head to a more usual sleeping between my feet.

KK is also much better now she has been treated for fleas – still a bit thin on fur, but it’s already growing back.

YAY!

How to make a Manx cat

Some sad news, I received from Anni – the wonderful, wonderful woman who’s looking after my little kitties while I’m away:

Am taking Ed back to the vets today to have the rest of his tail removed 🙁

He is still frightened of it, and chewing and scratching at it. I did try taking the collar off him – a few times – and even let him outside, in case part of it was boredom. But even out in the garden you could see he was petrified of it. So the poor little sod will become a manx cat today.

Also – how to make me feel like a very bad mommy! KK has lost some of her fur around her back legs, where she has been licking away at it. She didn’t seem distressed when i touched it, so she wasn’t in pain. I took her to the vets too, and he asked me if she had fleas. I said no, I hadn’t seen any, nor had I seen any flea dirt (which is all completely true). He picks her up and says “Oh look, there’s one on her leg,” and there was a bloody flea! Seems she is allergic to flea bites, so they are both on that stuff you put ont he back of their necks. I felt awful!!!

Easier than typing it all in for you lot! I’d just like to say that Anni is in no way a bad mommy! Fleas are a bugger to spot – I worked in a vet’s for a year or so and I know this for a fact. Ed’s tail isn’t her fault – just one of those things.

The fact that she’s getting so worked up and worrying about them tells me that she is the bestest kittie mommie in the world and I can’t thank her enough for looking after the pair of them for so long.

Anni, thank you.

What a night. First of all trying to get everything furniture-wise moved from my house to Kim’s, and then to empty the loft and fill the van up… with Chris getting progressively iller as the evening wore on.

More on that on the Tour Blog”. A big, huge public THANKS to Chris, though. Despite feeling like he was going to upchuck the rather delicious burgers I cooked him, he battled on and remained un-chundered.

Oh, and I could do with a smidgen of that loft space you mentioned!

On a sadder note, my mum rang this evening to tell me her dog has been put down. A couple of you will have met Pippa and she was a very fine little hound, indeed.

As I’m heading up to see them on Friday, I’m gutted that I won’t get to see her running around like a loon and snuffling at my feet again. Instead, we’ll be burying her in the garden.

My mum’s heartbroken, and in honesty so am I. RIP Pippa, 1994 – 2006.
