Firefox / Google shortcuts

Maybe these work in IE as well. I’m too lazy to find out.

Two web sites I look at a lot are Wikipedia and the Internet Movie Database. The usual method is to go to the page and then search for something, or to start typing the address in the bar in Firefox, spot an earlier entry and change it to get the item I want.

No more!

I’m not sure how long this has been available, but try going to the page bar (where you’d normally type in www.cumguzzlingsluts.com or whatever) and enter wiki scatology or similar. Voilá, you’re taken straight to the page. Similarly, try imdb edward penishands for an IMDB search.

There may well be other common searchable sites this works with. Looking at the status bar at the bottom, the system seems to work by checking Google first, when then forms the correct page URL and forwards you to the article you’re after. A bit like an advanced version of their "feeling luck" button.

Worst spam ever

OK, maybe not but it did make me giggle.

As if I’d plug their website, which I’m not ever going to visit. I don’t like viruses and spyware. Although it’d be tempting to try and crash their webserver.

You know what? I’ve not been alarmed of my penis getting larger before my very eyes since I was about 10. And that didn’t last long once I realised what I could do with it. Lightsabre battles with other kids in the school loos. Make my bedsheets bounce up and down. Oh, and *******.

Worse email advert ever. Fucktards.

I bloody hate computers

Which is inconvenient seeing as I work with them. I’ve got a brand new one sat to the desk on my left. I’ve had a similar problem with most of the batch I’ve been building – when I go to Windows Update, Internet Explorer hangs. So I close it, report the error to the dustbin in Microsoft’s cellar, and it pops up with a little dialogue telling me there may be some information that can help resolve this issue.

*Clicky* goes the mouse and I get taken to a page with suggestions. The first of which is to install the most recent patches for IE. Which is what I was trying to do when it crashed. But perhaps this link takes me to a page where I can download them manually? No such luck. It just loops me back to Microsoft Update and IE hangs again.

Gah.

And I can’t use Firefox to download Windows updates, either. I did manage to do it once (after downloading a gazillion clag-on applications and stuff) but never since. Usually, you just get a screen telling you to use IE, which therefore does make it an unremoveable part of the OS – something that came up in one of the original anti-competition lawsuits a few years ago.

Quiz me do!

I found a new website the other day and it’s just my kind of thing. A gazillion quizzes made by various people and in different formats. There’s a daily email quiz with random questions which I’ve been doing rather well on.

The registration is pretty straightforward, it’s free and you can compete against me (well, compare your scores) if you follow this link to the site. It’s called FunTrivia, which about sums it up.

Right, I’m off for another round of film questions.
