Oh, Lordi!

For the first time ever I wish I’d watched a Eurovision Song Contest final after Lordi won this year’s. A Finnish death metal (ish) band winning the most banal, dull, political music competition going. Not the most pointless – that’s the industry-voted Brits where the bands that the companies want to do well next year pick up prizes for not quite being commercial enough.

I didn’t even know that the Euro final was on last night. I only found out when the news made the front of BBC News’ page and also cropped up on Sky-NZ headlines over here. Thing is, it’s a pretty good song as well. And it’s the first time I can claim I’ve actually seen a Euro finalist live – I caught them very briefly at Download last year.

Told you he was a ****

Naseem Hamed (a guy who gets paid millions for beating other guys up) has been jailed for dangerous driving. Funnily enough, every time I’ve seen the guy on TV I’ve thought “egotistical prick”.

Lo and behold… I’m right. Overtaking over a solid white line in front of a dip in the road and head on into anouther car just to try and impress someone. This is a guy who’s so full of himself it’s amazing he hasn’t been shitting little Naseems for years.

I just hope he finds someone in jail who really likes him. Yes – in that way. ****.

Reasons for neutering children

Chav culture has struck again as an eleven year old is about to give birth in Scotland. The father’s 15 (and probably a coke-head) and the girl’s mother is proud of her for keeping the kid. The only thing I can think of her being proud about is the increase in income support their little brood will bring in, the scrounging workshy *******.

Oh, yes. And to top it all the 11 year-old smokes 20 a day. Where the ***** does an 11 year old find five quid upwards per day to buy fags?

I reckon any kid that acts like that one must have at an early age should be summarily neutered – perhaps reversibly – until they can actually act responsibly. And their parents should be hit with clubs. ******* unreal.

Why blame the police?

A woman was killed when a stolen car, chased by police, ploughed through her and her two children in South Shields. And now the police are launching an enquiry to see if the officer involved was at fault.

Why on earth are they trying to see if the police did anything wrong? If the piece of **** who stole the car (carjacked, in fact, threatening the owner with a weapon) hadn’t done so, or had given up then nothing would have happened. What are the police meant to do? Just let them drive off and assume they’ll catch them later once they stop for a packet of fags?

****’s sake. I pity the family that’s lost a mother and my heart goes out to the children who are still in a worrying condition. However, I’m sure they’re not looking to blame the police, although I know far too many people will jump at the chance to point fingers if they think it’ll mean a cash payout.

I await the thieving scum in the car trying to get compensation for his injuries from the police. If that’s the case, may I suggest they make it worth his while and kick the ****’s ******* head in. Then throw him down some stairs. Then use a Black and Decker on his kneecaps.

For starters.

Nice try… but a waste of time

Warner Brothers to sell downloads seems like a good idea at first glance. They’re embracing BitTorrent, one of the major sources of pirated distributions and using it to sell legal, good quality versions of film and TV releases on the same day as the DVDs are released.

Nice.

Or is it?

Pricing is apparently about the same for a film as the equivalent DVD. This will not include all the extras present on the DVD. Also, it will only be playable on the machine to which it is downloaded. Also, how they decide their pricing could be crucial. Recommended retail on some DVDs is £30 while such places as Play and Amazon ship them for half that. What price will Warners choose?

So, essentially, they’re asking people to choose one of three options:

1 – buy the DVD somehow. Get a good copy, all the extras and the freedom to watch it wherever you want. On the PC, in the car, on a portable player, on telly, at a mate’s house…

2 – download it for nowt, taking your chances on the quality. But once you’ve got it, you can pop it on a disc and watch it anywhere as above.

3 – pay possibly more than you would for the DVD while only getting the feature, and being restricted to watching it on your PC and it’s paltry 17″ screen.

They haven’t really thought it through, have they?
